The strengthening of the historic district centers is an important goal Vienna's city planning. This goal is to be a "getting on in years," Meidlinger main road to be redesigned. This was a study of the shopping street features developed and complemented with a guide for social area analysis in the public space, both the example Meidlinger main road created. Based on these two studies was then a European competition for the redesign of the pedestrian zone awarded Meidlinger main road. In this workshop report, the two basic research studies and summarized information about the selected submissions.
